Red Rock Running & Tri Club

2012 AGM Minutes

Good-day all,

Well another year has gone and come and with it another Club AGM.

I would like to thank the Club members that gave up their time to attend the Thursday evening meeting.

First off, I would like to thank Mark Denton, owner of Trail Blazers Outdoor Store for once again allowing us the use of his facility to hold our meeting.

Here are the highlights from the evening.

2012 Club Executive are as follows:

I would like to thank Karen, Janice, Susan, David and Pete for their willingness to return to their existing roles. Jobs all well done last year I might add. Thank you all.

I would also like to thank Gerry Babin for everything he has done in the past years through all his roles with the Club to get it to where we are today. Thanks Gerry, job well done and you will be sadly missed on the Executive.

Membership update

As of the AGM we had 28 paid memberships and 20 combined past and current Executive members. So far these numbers are low, but we expect you are all getting over the Christmas expenses and will start to see the membership apps coming in soon.

One topic that was raised was regarding the “Life Memberships”. As you can see from the numbers above, the Life Members almost equal the paid members. Also, due to the dropping club numbers over the past few years, this will be the last year of the life memberships for past Executive Board members. Starting in 2013 the Executive will receive their memberships for their duration on the Board and for the first year following, after which they will revert back to a paying membership again. The new 2013 membership cards will display “Membership” and “Executive Membership” along with the current year. The current Life Membership cards after 2012 will no longer be valid.

Social Directors update

2 – “Run to Footstock” learn to run clinic.
The club will be hosting a 12 week learn to run clinic culminating on the FootStock weekend with the 5 and 10km events.
The clinic will cost $60 per person.
Included in the cost will be a the first year membership to the club and various guest lecturers.
Current club members will be allowed to attend the lectures and join in the runs after at no charge.
Still to be negotiated is a possible reduced rate for entrance fees for the FootStock event for each clinic member.

Communications update

Susan has done a great job making sure we have membership apps hanging on the boards around Town. We are looking at approaching both local papers to see if we can get a write up about the Club and the upcoming “Run to FootStock” clinic.

Sponsorship update

David has done a great job acquiring new and resigning existing Club sponsors.

Check website for discounts and further additions to our great sponsors.

When visiting any of our valued Sponsors, make sure you inform them prior to your purchase that you are a Club member and you must display your membership card to receive any discount.

Many of our existing sponsors are saying that members are not using their facility. With David’s hard work and the willingness of the Sponsor to give us a discount we should try to utilize as many as possible. Please have a look at the Sponsors link on the Club website to see what David has accomplished for our benefit.

If there are any other Sponsors you would like to see please let us know and we will see if it is possible. Check the website often for updates.

Website update

I would like to thank Pete for a great job in maintaining the website and keeping it current and updated. Making the changes to it on short notice can be frustrating for Pete and for that we truly appreciate all your work Pete. Thank you.

General discussion:

Kevin Akre spoke about a great upcoming event late this summer.

Our local Rotary Club in conjunction many others is planning an event in the new Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park this Sept. to help raise funds for upgrades and general maintenance of the park. The event will have the CPO performing on a Saturday followed by running event on the Sunday.

Once the event is more formalized we will have updated information and links to the event on the website.

This was the AGM in a nutshell.
